MSO Outlines Hospital Deployment for SPAN |
 |
SOHOware
is working with a Midwest Cable Operator for
deployment of SPAN in various institutional
settings. The first project is a 400-room
installation at a Children’s hospital to provide
ubiquitous broadband access to patients and
guests, as well as provide wireless connectivity
to network resources for medical staff and
administrators.
How
it works
Beginning
with authenticated access using a subscriber
server, the existing Ethernet network throughout
the facility becomes a secure distributor of
broadband
|
| services.
Patients and guests are able to utilize
Ethernet ports in rooms and waiting areas. Doctors,
nurses and staff can connect to the integrated
wireless gateway’s Access Point using handheld
devices or laptop PCs to obtain patient records
and check scheduling commitments. Privacy of the
wireless network is maintained through encryption
and MAC layer filtering features. The wireless
gateway also provides firewall protection to
prevent unauthorized access from the Internet.
To
connect an auxiliary building with the network at
a later point, a wireless bridge will be deployed
to provide a cost effective link and make the two
building networks function as one. |
