The SOHOware 11Mbps Wireless Ethernet Client (WEC) provides a standard wired interface for Ethernet-enabled devices and transparently converts the data to a wireless network connection. Devices accessing the Ethernet side require no drivers or network configuration (regardless of operating system).

The WLC261 is fully manageable from a remote network station via an SNMP based management system, such as SOHOware’s IWMS. Various features including auto-discovery and remote configuration are available. The WEC is perfectly suited for expanding network connectivity throughout a facility using wireless technology, thereby reducing both installation costs and time to achieve a return on investment.

The WEC is ideal for guests and visitors who need a quick and simple connection to network resources and the Internet when using a conventional RJ-45 connection. Their PC’s existing network settings are automatically accommodated, requiring no configuration by the user. The WLC261 is ideal for extending a wireless network to office conference rooms, hotel guest rooms, cafes and other public locations where ease-of-use connectivity to services is desired.

The WEC is also available in a non-manageable version (WLC221) for applications requiring interoperability with other Access Point brands.

Key Features and Benefits

High 11Mbps Transmission (802.11b)
Includes advanced radio frequency technology for exceptional receiving and transmitting signal quality, insuring outstanding performance and reliability:

.
Integrated dual dipole antenna with diversity for superior receiving and transmission

.
High radio sensitivity enhances receiving quality on weak data signals

Transparently Converts Wired Ethernet to Wireless Signal
Provides all the cost saving benefits of deploying a wireless network without requiring connecting clients to be wirelessly enabled. Any device with IP can be obtain network connectivity including computers and printers.

Wireless Security
The internal SSID and WEP encryption functions are automatically initiated and managed between the WLC261 and the Access Point (WLA660), transparent to the user. There is no public disclosure of these settings, thereby improving the overall security conditions of the wireless network.

Remote Configuration
Allows network administrators to manage each WEC on the network remotely from a single terminal using an SNMP based management tool, such as SOHOware’s IWMS.

. DHCP Client Support: Automatically obtains a new IP address from a DHCP server.

.
Auto-IP Address Assignment: automatically generates an IP address within the same domain maintaining IP connectivity should the DHCP server fail.

.
Service Discovery Support: automatically detects a new device connecting through the Ethernet port and notifies the remote management system (IWMS) of its presence.

11Mbps Wireless Ethernet Client Application Scenarios

Ad-Hoc Mode:

Ad-hoc mode (also called peer-to-peer mode) offers a fast and secure network solution between PC stations.

Infrastructure Mode:

Connects an Ethernet-enabled device to a network via an Access Point. Allows location of the connection point to be flexible using a wireless link, within the radio range of the AP.
