Advanced streaming applications for mobile users are poised to take off and today’s wireless LAN networks must keep pace supporting the demand. Voice over IP (VoIP) is now well established as a legitimate communications alternative to traditional Telco services and its wireless equivalent, VoWi-Fi, will fast become an essential part of mobile business applications. Likewise, conferencing applications that stream video are increasing demand for dedicated bandwidth over the Wi-Fi infrastructure. |
|
|
Unless the infrastructure is capable of handling the need for low latency and jitter, let alone higher throughput, many mobile users will find the performance of their applications less than desirable. In particular, the quality of voice transmissions puts an exceptionally tough constraint on RF layout and access point placement to insure reliable and ubiquitous connectivity. VARs who install conventional WLAN solutions constantly run into the hassles of environmental obstacles and channel interference. SOHOware, in partnership with Airgo Networks, has introduced a next generation solution to the SMB market that solves all this.
|
| AeroGuard™ is a MIMO based platform combined with WLAN switch software features integrated into an access point solution. Based on Airgo’s True MIMO™ chipset, AeroGuard™ is not hampered by environmental obstacles found in indoor wireless environments. On the contrary, MIMO access points thrive on obstacles, the more the better. Why? The answer is in the ability of MIMO to utilize the multiple RF transmissions that reach the receiving end of a wireless connection. AeroGuard™ access points offer more robust connection reliability over longer distances than conventional WLAN solutions, simplifying network layout and installation while supporting higher bandwidth demands. AeroGuard™ offers the |

unprecedented performance capability of 108Mbps data rates in a single 20MHz channel. This leaves more channels available for adjacent access points, reducing channel conflict that results in dropped calls, broken speech, static and other application interference.
Now, package all that superior RF performance in an Enterprise-class solution and you have AeroGuard™, offering financial grade security and hierarchical management for SMB and distributed Enterprise networks.

An
aspect often neglected in small or mid size networks is resiliency to recover
from data path disruptions. Another
innovative feature of AeroGuard™ is a built-in wireless Mesh function supported
by a dual radio platform. When
implementing the wireless Mesh, network infrastructure is achieved wirelessly
with dedicated high bandwidth backhauls that automatically connect between
access points. .
|
Intelligent auto-routing is part of the Mesh
design so that AeroGuard™ can support a
resilient fail-over response in the event of
a path disruption. The wireless Mesh
system enhances installation simplicity
and reliability by forming connections
automatically without elaborate site
surveys, and the Mesh architecture can
reduce installation costs by reducing or
eliminating the need for physical Ethernet.
|
A hierarchical management system is also included in AeroGuard™, highlighted by the embedded features of a WLAN switch. The wireless LAN industry has arrived at a useful tiered architecture that utilizes a WLAN switch in response to the need for centralized security policy and network management. In this architecture, edge APs are connected to the WLAN switch or switch appliance through a shared LAN. When multiple switches are deployed, a higher-level NMS is introduced to centrally manage each of the WLAN switches, and thereby the entire wireless network. However, for the SMB market, each edge AP must also have adequate intelligence to support the performance demands of an application-rich mobile user environment in a cost-effective and scalable manner.
|
|
AeroGuard™ makes this happen with additional software embedded in each MIMO access point that provides complete WLAN switch functions. When enabled as a switch AP, AeroGuard™ can centrally manage the RF and security policies of a 20 MIMO AP network. Additional scaling is supported through an AeroGuard™ NMS solution that can manage hundreds of AP switches located at multiple sites, completing a fully scalable and hierarchical management solution that is affordable, and therefore purpose-built, for SMB.
